Smoky Shredded Chipotle Beef

Smoky Shredded Chipotle Beef

If you love food that’s bold, a little spicy, and full of deep smoky flavor, this Smoky Shredded Chipotle Beef deserves a place on your table. My grown kids absolutely love it, and I can’t blame them. The beef turns fall-apart tender every single time, and the whole can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce gives it that rich heat that keeps you coming back for more.

Even better, it’s the kind of recipe that works no matter what equipment you use. You can let it simmer low and slow in a cast-iron Dutch oven, or you can speed things up in a pressure cooker when you need dinner to take care of itself. Either way, the result is the same: soft, juicy, shredded beef that tastes like it cooked all day.

Why This Recipe Works So Well

The magic comes from the combination of slow cooking and the chipotle peppers. The long simmer breaks down the beef until it becomes soft enough to pull apart with a fork, while the chipotle peppers add smokiness, depth, and that warm, spicy kick. And because the flavor develops as it cooks, the sauce gets thicker, richer, and more intense over time.

And once the beef is shredded, the final touch is folding in the black beans. They warm through naturally and give the dish that last bit of heartiness without making it heavy.

What Are Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce?

Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce are smoked jalapeños packed in a tangy, slightly sweet tomato-based sauce. The peppers bring heat, while the adobo sauce adds depth and flavor. Using the entire can doesn’t make it overpowering — instead, it gives the beef a balanced smokiness that makes the whole dish taste richer and more complete.

Two Cooking Methods (Both Delicious)

You can choose the cooking style that fits your day:

• Dutch Oven (Cast Iron) (2 1/2 hours)
Perfect when you want that cozy, slow-simmered flavor. The beef cooks gently and the sauce reduces naturally, which gives the dish a deep, rounded taste.

• Pressure Cooker (1 1/2 hours)
Ideal for busy days. You still get tender, shredded beef, but in a fraction of the time. And the flavor stays bold and smoky.

Both versions give you the same end result: juicy shredded beef with spicy sauce clinging to every piece.

How to Serve It (Endless Options)

This shredded beef is incredibly flexible, which makes it perfect for family dinners or weekend cravings. You can serve it:

  • Over crispy fries and load it up with toppings
  • Inside soft tacos with fresh lime and cilantro
  • On nachos with melted cheese and jalapeños
  • In bowls with rice, avocado, and a squeeze of lime
  • Wrapped in tortillas for lunch
  • Or simply straight from the pot — no judgment

It’s one of those recipes that just works, no matter how you serve it.

Why Your Family Will Love It

It’s comforting, full of flavor, and easy to customize. Plus, the leftovers taste even better the next day. And because the beef is shredded, everyone can build their own plate exactly the way they like it — which is probably why my kids keep asking for it.
